Book Review: CGI Programming with PERL

I am blogging after a gap of 2 years! I heard of this O'Reilly Blogger Program where you get to read new books if you review and blog about it. So here I am trying it out. Recently, I purchased a lot of titles from the O'Reilly media. The most important thing about these books are that they are very simple and easy to understand the concept or a programming language. I started with "CGI Programming with PERL" book. The truth is I really like PERL as a scripting language but somehow I feel it is very cumbersome to write PERL/CGI when it comes to web programming. My job requires that I know and implement CGI so I started reading this title to hone my CGI skills. This book is really for beginners who don't know really what CGI is all about. The author explains that very well and moves onto more complex topics like graphics, javascript, databases etc. I think that this book is a great help since they are less web resources related to DBI in particular. The topics which I was interested were Debugging CGI, working with the DBI module, javascript and the most importantly using the hidden parameters field. A good book to start when you have doubts about DBI, debugging and javascript with PERL.

DAY 01

I ‘m back! After spending a long time discovering my laptop and its sexy features I finally allowed my own system to hibernate for a while. RJ & I had decided to go tekdi the next morning but the exploits of the night had well ensured that the plan was going to be extinguished. But still I did manage to get up at 6! After a sleepy conversation with RJ, it was decided that it was better to have breakfast meeting. But that never happened.

My adorable desktop is again infected with a TROJAN “RECYCLER” and it seems will take a while to get better. I had called my MSP friend to ask for the Product Key so that I could restore the system. But it seems it will take much longer as the installation CD was with Nitin.

After a brief discussion with her about COMPUTER ENGG I just pondered upon the fact that what we learn may not be useful in the near future. The famous Paretos principal is applicable everywhere. “80% of the portion u learn will satisfy only 20% of what u do.”!! Strange!

I have seen lots of examples where people learn something which they are interested in and later does something which makes them earn satisfaction and money! Hope I don’t do the same. Later, as the afternoon progressed I had to drop my mom off to my cousin sister baby shower. Baby Shower is one thing I tend to avoid not that I am not interested but I feel it’s more of female gender party! Let them have fun!
My best friend visited me in the afternoon to see the laptop. The review was good and it felt better that I had made the right choice. In the early evening, I gave a call to my aunt to check the availability of a WIRELESS Modem and YEA it was!! Eagerly waiting to get my hands on it!

Evening was quite boring as I had to study a bit. Dinner was different as I had the upma and the wada pav from the shower. I was eagerly waiting for the match to begin. Till that time, I solved 2-3 passages. I discovered that HARRY POTTER was being showcased on HBO. So, the annoying and the irritating habit of browsing the channel back n forth began! Parents get so bugged. Why not use the BACK button provided on the remote?

A chat with my heart & later after that I found myself sleeping on the sofa. Match was over. India had lost. I was grogery with sleep. It was indeed a relief when finally slept off properly in my bed tugged inside a blanket.
TILL 2MO let me DREAM!!!

DAY 00

Today, 11th June 2009. People always start with 01.I thought doesn’t the number series start with 0? So, here I am starting my new blog with “Day 00”!

The day started with GYM in the morning. A heavy breakfast ensured a filled stomach. I made a small attempt to solve some passages from the BIG BOOK. After a while, I started surfing the movies I had downloaded from Nitin. “Accidental Husband “was the movie which hooked me for the next 2-3 hours. Produced by Uma Thurman & an Indian was great movie to relish. It was a pure Hollywood movie with a tang of Indian “curry”. The motto was simple “LOVE” is unpredictable, unrealistic and the most important you have to feel it.

Dad called to inform me the unavailability of the VAIO model. Supposedly, it was a new model but wasn’t available. Surprisingly, the older model wasn’t there too! I couldn’t believe my luck! Just to recheck I also called the HELPLINE number of the company but they were not so helpful. After doing adequate research through the internet finally I decided to go with the VAIO 17G model. The configuration is 3GB RAM, 250 GB HD, 128 MB Dedicated NVIDIA graphics card and lots more. The most exciting factor is that it’s a “VAIO”!

I purchased the dazzling copper bronze CS 17G in the evening. After completing all the formalities came back home. Officially started working with it after mom and dad opened it. Will always be indebted to them for the wonderful encouragement they give me. They have always imbibed the best qualities.

Finally, the laptop selection could not have been easier if I did not have the support of my love. Always with me, she is the guiding light of my life. Just can’t stop admiring her qualities.

Good Night,

Since many days wanted to visit the Dargah at Ajmer. This holiday seem to be perfect reason for it! So off went to Jaipur n reached Ajmer.. But some stories of Jaipur first..

Jaipur (Pink City) was the CITY which made me think. Believe me, it doesn't feel like a capital city of Rajasthan! Small Roads, crowded area n cold climate to sum it up. Unlike all other state capitals which i have visited , dint encounter a single convey of any minister!! Surprising!! "Asso.."

Long Time!

HI,

After the exhausting exams, a much needed break i hope to be blogging soon..!!

labels!!!

Last week, I was surfing through the “Get Ahead” section of a popular Indian website RE DIFF.COM where I came across a interview of Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan who recently launched book called the YOU GET HERE.! She is one of the country’s most famous bloggers. The book is on relationship issues faced by a girl of 24 years old. Her bold writing style & candid truths have always attracted lot of people on her blog. In that article I came across the word “”LABEL””!!

Label has been defined in Cambridge Dictionary as “a word or a phrase which is used to describe the characteristics or qualities of people”. But then why are we always putting Labels in our day to day life.

Whenever the thought process goes on , we keep on associating ourselves with the labels that the society has created. Say for example, we have labels like a ‘good’ ,’best’ friend extending to ‘boy’/’girl’ friend. Labels can be safely called as adjectives I guess. Whenever we are confused we try to create a new label. So basically aren’t we RE-DEFINING relations in particular. For eg : a friend ends up being a ‘boy’ friend. I mean c’mon for a country who has a population of a billion needs such kind of labels to define the relations among people. Why can’t the society just accept the things as they are??

Why do we always end up getting up confused or perplexed about such labels in a relationship! Being a teenager, I have seen people who are supposedly in a “RELATIONSHIP” ,fretting about some petty issues about so called “GOOD FRIENDS “!

Every term has to have a special meaning??!! Even for that matter, a lot of people have the “SPACE” issue! Now, what is “SPACE”?? Helping or involving one excessively for the good of other person, can be easily termed as intrusion in that person’s “SPACE “??!! Being Excessive nature is always harmful but don’t you people think that unnecessarily we define it as “SPACE”?!!

So then “LABELS” are good or bad, effective or ineffective in defining relations???!! A strange topic to write upon but sometimes it feels bad to see people think or do things in a stupid manner. Would love to hear comments about this topic!
